The Springfield Weekly Republican reported on 3 April 1924 that The Witch House was badly damaged by a fire. We hold the newspaper’s account as the record; the column itself carries the detail.
Reported. A long-circulating local story, retold on a ghost tour in Salem, Massachusetts, places a haunting at Witch House. The stories told on the route turn on unexplained footsteps, voices and other sounds. Guests are told of sudden cold and of being touched by something they could not see. It is a private address on a walking route: see it from the street, and do not enter the property or its grounds. The account is the tour operator’s, recorded here as local legend rather than fact.
